THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
Why we use it as our masthead or representation
You may be wondering why we at GODSPACT decided to use the image of The
Statue of Liberty -- one complete with the slight modification of the torch replacing
the flame with a cross -- as our organizational logo and masthead. The answer is
simple and the decision to use this symbol was not a very difficult one to make.
She represents "Liberty" and "Freedom," which are the core of what we were
established to preserve. The freedom to practice our religion and the liberty to do
so without fear.
We have noticed that there are many organizations which claim to be "fighting for rights, freedoms," or lack of same that utilize or incorporate the image of Lady Liberty, or the flame in her torch in their logos. Some of the uses of the image are ironic since the
organizations using it are totally against the idea she represents., except in their minds.
While sometimes that do good, it is not good to fight those who are just simply because
you disagree with their religion, because of a misconception that it is separated from government. How is this even possible? Do people really not know their own history?
Next, we questioned ourselves as to why were they the only ones using this national image. Does she not belong to all of us? We believe that these other groups or organizations have no more or no less the right to use The Status of Liberty image than anyone else.
If people dedicated to taking away liberty can do this, well so can those of us who believe in true liberty.
And as an aside, it is God and not government that gives all of mankind that desire to be free.
Finally, we wanted an image that would define us both as Christian and American. We looked back to a song written by Neil Enloe of "The Couriers" during a boat ride concert at New York Harbor in 1974 and we decided that the lyrics of this song, more than any other tool represented what we believe is our mission and our national destiny.
The song titled "Statue of Liberty" became very popular because it extols the virtues of being both an American and a Christian. The lyrics of "The Statue of Liberty" have been included below.
THE STATUE OF LIBERTY

"The Couriers" From the album "Statue of Liberty"
In New York Harbor stands a Lady
With a torch raised to the sky;
And all who see her know she stands for
Liberty for you and me.
I'm so proud to be called an American,
To be named with the brave and the free;
I will honor our flag, and our trust in God,
And the Statue of Liberty.
On lonely Golgotha stood a cross
With my Lord raised to the sky;
And all who kneel there live forever
As all the saved can testify.
I'm so glad to be called a Christian,
To be named with the ransomed and whole
As the statue liberates the citizen,
So the cross liberates the soul.
Oh, the cross is my Statue of Liberty
It was there that my soul was set free
Unashamed I'll proclaim that a rugged cross
Is my Statue of Liberty.
